Wichita Asian Association and WSU School of Music presents SANSKRITI, a percussion program, which will be an ultimate melodic and rhythmical experience.
SANSKRITI represents a rare combination of instruments such as Santoor and Keyboard, with traditional Indian percussion instruments performing the classical music by the masters of South and North Indian classical percussionists. There are two different traditions in Indian Classical music ie. ,Hindustani music (popular in north India) and Carnatic music (prevalent in south India) SANSKRITI merges and assimilates both these styles to create a new energy in the combined musical systems and also creates a new melody with fast rhythms. SANSKRITI is the combining effort and blending of both systems of classical music taking common raga scales, elaborating more on the scale with raga alap and making the music to go along with the percussion artists showing the relationships to each tradition.
Indian Classical Music has one of the most complex and complete musical systems ever developed. Like Western Classical music, it has divided the octave into 12 semitones of which the 7 basic notes are Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni, Sa, in order replacing the Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do.
Carnatic music tends to be significantly more structured than Hindustani music; examples of this are the logical classification of ragas into melakarthas, and the use of fixed compositions similar to Western classical music. Carnatic raga elaborations are generally much faster in tempo and shorter than their equivalents in Hindustani music.
